Each of the Teton Council Fires was made up of seven bands. The two major Chiefs were Red Cloud and Bull Bear. The seven bands of the Oglala are:
- Wazaza -- Shred Into Strips
- Tapisleca-- Split Liver (Red Cloud)
- Payabaya -- Shove Aside (Afraid of His Horses)
- Wagluke -- Loafers (Red Cloud)
- Oyukpe -- Broken Off (Crazy Horse)
- Ite Sica -- Bad Face (Red Cloud)
- Kiyaksa -- Little Wound (Bull Bear)
